Comme l'année dernière, le Star Trek Day aura lieu le 8 septembre (dans la nuit du 8 au 9 à 2h30 du matin pour nous), il sera accompagné en musique par Jeff Russo avec un orchestre en direct :

Suite au grand mécontentement, la décision a été prise de la diffuser sur Pluto TV (appartenant à ViacomCBS qui possède donc Paramount+) :

Discovery va finalement faire une pause après l'épisode 7, et reviendra le 10 février. (Picard devrait enchaîner après la fin de la saison du 17 mars, et logiquement Strange New Worlds devrait arriver en juin, mais tout ça reste à être confirmé).

"The galaxy's a big place where incredible things can happen. Season 5 is shaping up to be... all I can say is that - it's not time travel - but we go back into the past to get further into the future. There's this old version of Star Trek that exists. And this new version that's been created by Alex but there's a lot of things we still love about the old version. So it's about pulling from there... not necessarily stories or characters but more themes, and process, and how those stories are told, and applying it to what we do in the future. And that includes [Burnham's] character and things she does as a Captain."

Rapide avis sur une 4ème saison toujours au top visuellement et qui commence bien, mais qui s'étale ensuite sur un scénario.. pas inintéressant.. mais pas suffisamment relevé à mon goût et manquant un peu de surprises pour son final. En parallèle, il y a bien trop d'échanges psychologico-émotionnels, évidemment très à la mode aujourd'hui, qui sont certes présents depuis le début de la série, mais dont ici le taux atteint un niveau critique à la limite de l'overdose.

Bref, je l'ai moins appréciée que les deux précédentes, en espérant que la cinquième sera plus pertinente.

L'avant-dernier épisode nous fait un triple clin d'œil à Abyss (la tentacule esthétiquement très proche), Rencontre du 3ème type (l'utilisation d'un support commun de communication via des combinaisons > musicales pour l'un et moléculaires pour l'autre), et Arrival (l'échelle de grandeur et la complexité du langage, bien qu'ici la solution soit trouvée bien trop rapidement). ^^

Jonathan Frakes sur la dernière saison qui reviendrait à une approche plus centrée sur l'action et l'aventure :

“The first half of the season finale of Discovery, by the way, is Indiana Jones this year instead of the heavy emo of season four. Discovery is back on track as an action-adventure show, and I guess they got their marching orders to maintain that.

Everybody has embraced it, from Michelle Paradise and Alex, down through the cast. There’s a new energy and a new mandate.

It was a thrill for me to find some levity in some of those scenes. That’s why First Contact was successful, because you build and then add just a little levity to let them steam out, so you can restart.”

“It could end up not airing until 2026. We don’t know. But by starting [shooting in late summer], just building the sets alone is a massive endeavor, then six months of shooting, then six to eight months of post. If you recall, there was all this noise around Season 1 and Season 2 of Discovery because the streaming service, they were like, ‘Oh, it’s like a turnaround on a cop show.’ I’m like, ‘No, you don’t understand. It’s eight months of visual effects turnaround, and we’re not gonna rush that.’ So, it’ll come out, but it’ll come out when it’s done.”

“There’s a lot of different kids from a lot of different places. Some of them want to be there, some of them don’t want to be there. It’s gonna be a fundamental reinforcement of all the things we love about Starfleet, in general. You always want to ask yourself, ‘Why this show now?’ I think that one of the big things that certainly my 17-year-old son is facing, which is kind of a fundamental ‘Star Trek’ question, is, ‘How did we get here? How has this generation inherited the mistakes from previous generations? And what are we gonna do to fix it, to build that optimistic future that is Roddenberry’s essential vision?’ That is very much going to be at the heart of Starfleet Academy.”

“Alex [Kurtzman] and I talked about it a lot in terms of what those final moments would be, what it would look like, and what did we want to do there? You always want to wrap a season in a really wonderful way.

Wrapping a series, especially when we didn’t know going into the season that it would be the final season, we thought a lot about it, and we put a lot into it. I do think that people will really enjoy it and that it will feel ‘of a piece,’ and feel complete in a really good, even if it’s bittersweet, way.”

Hunter’s character will serve as the captain and chancellor of the Academy, presiding over both the faculty and a new class of Starfleet cadets as they learn to navigate the galaxy in the 32nd century.
